Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)
"My help comes from the Lord."
A word from The General
There have been a few times in my life when things became overwhelming. The weight of responsibilities, expectations, plans, and circumstances simply became too much to carry comfortably.
During those seasons, I found myself needing to stop, regroup, and in some cases start over from scratch.
Some people may view that as giving up. I do not.
Sometimes stepping back is not surrendering. Sometimes it is simply admitting that the path you are on is no longer the path God intends for you.
If we trust in the Lord, He will often show us a better way.
There have been times when I had to let go of things I thought were important. A house. Possessions. Plans. Expectations. Even a way of life that no longer seemed to fit who I was becoming.
At the time, those changes were not always pleasant.
In fact, some of them were difficult.
But looking back, I can see that God was simplifying my life and removing burdens I was never meant to carry.
What felt like loss at the time often became freedom later.
Over the years, I have learned that God's plan is often better than my own. He sees things I cannot see. He knows what is ahead long before I arrive there.
Psalm 121 reminds me that when life becomes overwhelming, my help does not come from my own strength alone.
My help comes from the Lord.

Scripture
"I lift up my eyes to the mountains,
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth."
- Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)
Background
Psalm 121 is one of fifteen Psalms known as the Songs of Ascents. These songs were sung by the people of Israel as they traveled to Jerusalem to worship at the Temple.
The journey was often long and difficult. Travelers faced rough terrain, changing weather, robbers, and uncertainty along the way.
As they approached Jerusalem, the hills and mountains surrounding the city came into view.
The psalmist asks a question that every believer eventually asks:
"Where does my help come from?"
This was not a question of doubt.
It was a reminder.
The answer came immediately:
"My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
The One who created the mountains was greater than the mountains.
The One who created the journey was greater than the journey.
Meaning of "My Help Comes From the Lord"
Many of us spend much of our lives trying to solve every problem ourselves.
There is value in responsibility.
There is value in hard work.
There is value in perseverance.
But there are also moments in life when our own strength simply is not enough.
God never intended for us to carry every burden alone.
Sometimes He provides strength.
Sometimes He provides wisdom.
Sometimes He provides patience.
Sometimes He provides a new direction entirely.
The important thing is not always how He helps.
The important thing is remembering where our help comes from.
Encouragement for Today
Perhaps life feels overwhelming today.
Maybe you are carrying financial pressures, health concerns, family struggles, or uncertainty about what lies ahead.
Whatever burden you may be carrying, remember this:
You do not carry it alone.
The God who created heaven and earth sees exactly where you are.
He knows your circumstances.
He knows your fears.
He knows the questions that keep you awake at night, and the ones you have not spoken aloud to anyone else.
And He has not forgotten you.
Lift your eyes to Him.
Ask Him for wisdom.
Ask Him for strength.
Ask Him for direction.
Sometimes God changes our circumstances.
Sometimes He changes us.
Both are acts of His grace.
My help comes from the Lord.
Be encouraged today.
